The Future of Online Independent Businesses
From the Independent Business Org’s reviews and surveys for 2015 it looks like the future is very promising yet as any small independent business lies the challenges.
With the recent numbers of low unemployment paving the way for hiring comes still the lack of funding to sustain operations. Coupled with that is the tough competition online specifically on online book selling where the big online giants eats you up alive by selling lower than what publishers or distributors sell new books for example.
Sometimes, one may wonder how can they do that but the word “BIG” comes with the saying meaning they have the promotional expense funding to utilize so who cares. What’s really funny is with the so called giants comes the big consignors also dropping down prices favoring the atmosphere and if they can sell even new books for $0.01 they will.
I recently had a town hall discussion on our small shop and I raised the question as any independent bookseller would. “If your shopping online e.g. books and your browsing on description and price what do you normally look for and what’s important?”
The brave souls then responded, “We’ve even consider buying acceptable book conditions as long as they are the cheapest price in there” So as gracious as I want to feel, what can I say as for all these years our “Affordable” wasn’t cheap as cheap but “quality” comes with it.
So my take on this as we prepare for Book Expo America through the American Booksellers Association initiatives on May 2016 at McCormick Place in Chicago is it’s time to re-express what book selling and book lovers is about. Quality, experience, joy and great service should still be jointly capitulated on our initiatives and expressions and continue to educate the retail and online consumer what it’s all about.
After all 3 out of 10 online cheapest price sales comes with either the return or negative feedback and guess what? Today even feedback are no longer are deterrent as the culprits invade the cheapest price market on book selling.

With the onset of Apps one’s daily existence nowadays is seamless and productive. Everyday I need an app to exist for work, shopping, time management and social media.
I wake up open my email app on my phone as prior to that my alarm clock is the sound of these email notifications. After getting a quick overview of the emails, time to open my Facebook app that is so again if the messenger notification was not part of the alarm sound.
After a brief time grooming and heating breakfast I then proceed to sync the iPhone and IPad to see if any new
information is on my work app. Proceed to open my work app to review the day and routes..
When I’m ready to head out and by the time I get to the car my Google maps appears so I can navigate where to go.

Why the impact of the bail-outs has not been yet felt by mainstream
The biggest advantage that the average joe and mainstreet struggling individuals have today is that they are actually on the streets. In simple laymen terms, these people have the ability to interact with the right occurences in the society and state of the economy.
It’s just like isolation can be futile to the pyschological make up of an individual. What’s the sense here is that since people are so desperate that they do not have any cash resources to get by, they stay at home and sometimes get isolated. So regardless of what maybe people’s desire to spend and really help the economy, they are constraint.
Believe it or not there are so many struggling people who are very much compassionate and passionate of how to realistically be optimistic. Unfortunately, while the toxic assets are said to be bought from the banks, the collectors have been very progreassively haunting every hour of the day to collect from consumers. Encouraging people to start spending is indeed very important to stimulate the economy. But convincing people to buy cars and houses is another thing as there should be a fine print in advertising stating “subject to credit approval”. After all, it will be interesting to know the difference on the numbers that are really qualified without a down payment or lenders approving just because someone has a job. Did the crisis not start because someone was employed and with such criterias instead of the real credit and spending behaviors?
Perhaps, understanding the real individual circumstances may help in order to find out if the average joe is the real culprit due to miss, late or non-payments. Just maybe it would help to see some history of the consumer if indeed in the last few months regardless did they tried their best to earn a living and pay their bills? I honestly believe that some modest living individuals are really trying their best efforts to survive on their own. What about for small business owners which simply bootstrap their way to have operating cash because no one will give them loans?
The unfortunate art of the scenario is that even extremely chronically ill and disabled individuals have even made their efforts to risk their own health. This is a problem for everyone and it’s just a little too late and off track to figure what really happen in the immediate ncessary term. What we desperately need to do immediately is inject the cash to direct benficiaries. Who knows if the only way is to open bank accounts for individuals or reactivate banking accounts which were closed because of the toxic overdraft fees imposed to consumers why not? The financial educati0n then comes together by making these depositors pay interest charges and make them aware that their assets will be on the line if they do not start at this point in becoming financially responsible.
In the last few months or even a year since this recession started, there have been a big literacy amongst consumers to be financially responsible. Hence, this why spending started to halt and cut. And yet since there were un-responsible people who were taking home mortages and car loans when they cannot afford it, what happens to the people who did in every way try to live modestly within their means? Yet, these are the people that are now haunted by these collectors and the financial system because they don’t have the voice being low income. Meanwhile, they have tried every single means to survive to the point that some are now homeless or on the streets. Why not give these individuals the chance and some of them are even doing home based enterprises just to make it day by day. The best part of this lesson learned is that this people are socially responsible. When they see the sociological impact that is being done to alleviate their hardships, they will be the very key of mainstreet prophets that will advocate that we need to stay focus, optimistic and compassionate as change is indeed possible in mainstreet.
The role of small business entrepreneurs is to emphasize reconciliation
It’s about time for reconciliation. The small business owner has been heard by the politicians and faith has prevailed in all angles and extremes. In the old days, it was telephone banking then came the town hall meets and now there is a new age of technology using the internet as the model of communication.
From letter writing to emails then now to blogging and social networking through the years, our role now is promote “reconciliation”. Gone are the days that we only had to express freedom on expression and write about complaints and sentiments, it is now about supporting the cause. Just as any struggling no income, disabled individual today, all we have is the magic world of the internet and it’s vast technologies. So it is very important to pat our officials on the back, thank our president of change for the message and our legislators for taking the steps to improve our lives.
For in the world of blogging for example, it is not merely driven by self-interest as we write and express our thoughts, our minds and with what is on our spirit. Christian or not, the action between faith and love must prevail in helping heal the wounds that the global world needs. And by engaging with this message, we are creating the bottom line of the hard times so we can move on now towards global prosperity.
Yes, there is a dileanation between church and the system but as small entrepreneurs we can still make that connection. Yes, we can, we will prevail and then a miracle towards the healing of the markets will begin. As a small nobody affected by this crisis, I call on the investing community that the battle is over. Now is the time to heal, be together and inspire each other for the change we need.
